Welcome to Improv U dot com!

November 27, 2007:
It's almost time for Improv U's annual Christmas show thing! This year it'll be happening on Sunday, December 21st (that's the closest it's ever been to actual Christmas! Wow!) And, based on the title, it's the most threatening Christmas show we've done yet! Wow again! Plus, that "& Friends" seems kinda neat. That could mean anything! What DOES it mean? Only one way to find out!

As usual with our Christmas shows, all the proceeds will be going to the 'Adopt-a-Family' program through the Every-Women's Center in Sydney. Basically, we'll be buying a whole bunch of toys for kids that might otherwise get them for Christmas. Last year there was something like $700+ raised, and I think this year we can beat that total again! But we need your help! So, come on out to the Boardmore Playhouse on December 21st at 7pm for the best unwritten Christmas special you can imagine! A third wow!

September 18, 2008:
We just made the big move to prime-time! Now we're at Maxwell's (also on Charlotte St.) from 8pm-10 every Thursday. It's a pretty nice little bar, with a nice little stage, and a nice little improv group and whatnot. Very cozy. Fun is had, and will be had until we potentially force the bar to close. Hopefully that won't happen, but it's not without precedent. In a related note, the bartender at Maxwell's is the former bartender from Chandler's. So yeah - catch up with him too!

August 28, 2008:
So the variety show (Variety Show IV: A New Hope) went off without a hitch (or at least without expected hitches) and was a fun day for all. Huzzah. Thanks to everyone who came out!

What else is new? Well, I updated some stuff on this very page (which has been neglected since we got a Facebook thing), so now all of our previous show posters are up in the media section, like they should have been as we made them. Oh well, no use in crying over blah blah. Also, there's some big plans in the future of Improv U! Big plans! Stay tuned for those!

Also, there's this:

August 2, 2008:
The Improv U Show is now on the air! And by 'air' I mean 'internet'! Yes, we're venturing into the realm of recorded, scripted funny for your own amusement! Now if you are jonesing for some Improv U, all you have to do is go here! Or to the media section on this very website. Crazy. The future is now.

July 19, 2008:
Wow, it's been way too long since this place was updated. I blame facebook. Anywho, three big things since the last time I posted:
1. Improv U does have a new member (well, she's been in the group since March, so she's not exactly "new", but you get it). Robin McNeil! Woo!
2. We're going to Halifax for a long overdue reunion with one of our favorite comedy groups, Picnicface! It's happening this Sunday (July 20th) and will likely be the most amazing thing you ever see.
3. The 4th annual Improv U variety show (which will soon be further announced with name and whatnot) will be happening August 22nd at the Boardmore Playhouse. This will also be the most amazing thing you ever see. You see lots of amazing things.

So, yeah - we've been busy.

March 15, 2008:
AUIC is just a week away! Go check out the AUIC website for all the details!

Also, just in time for this shindig (and to put some fear into all those groups who will be challenging us) we have some new videos up from way back (the last Christmas show). Enjoy!

January 16, 2008:
This year Improv U is hosting the AUIC (Atlantic University Improv Challenge) at CBU, and it's set to be a wicked-awesome time. It's going to be happening the weekend of March 21, so be there for all the Atlantic-Canadian funny-making! There's more details at this website where info is going up fairly regularly as it gets figured out. Check it out, yo!

December 18, 2007:

'Christmas is Cancelled' was last night, and it just might have been one of our most successful shows to date! $750+ was raised/donated to the Adopt-A-Family program in Sydney (though, you can still feel free to donate some more, if you like). Thanks to everyone who came out! Unfortunately, KICASS could not make it due to the crappy storm, but a big thanks to them, and a HUGE thanks to Mark Penny and Kevin MacNeil who brought their own brand of Christmas cheer to the show and were kick-ass themselves!

There's some pictures from the show located in the 'Holiday Specials' section in the pictures section. Go take a look! Some videos will come later!

December 1, 2007:

With the return of December, comes the return of the annual Improv U Christmas show - this year titled "Christmas is Cancelled" (though it's not really cancelled, so don't worry about it). As per usual, the proceeds from this show are going to be going towards the 'Adopt-A-Family' program in Sydney. Basically, the group goes out, buys a bunch of toys (last year it was 2 and a half carts full) and then they're given to needy kids! It's pretty fun!

Thus far the plan is for an improv competition between the group and an adversary from its past... but who?!

All you have to do is show up to find out! That makes you a better person! Seriously!

October 10, 2007:

Yes, our 3rd Annual Spooktacular is happening this month (just over 2 weeks away! Ahhhh!) and this time things are a whole lot different. For one, we're not doing it at our usual home (ie - the Capri) opting instead to do it at CBU's Boardmore Playhouse. This brings us to different thing #2 - it's ALL AGES! Yes, now everyone can get in on the fun that people only 19+ were previously privy to! Good for all you under-agers!

There's still some stuff that's the same, however! For example - you'll still be getting free candy just for showing up! You'll still be able to dress up and enter our costume contests! You'll still be spookified by our Halloween/horror-based improv! Yes, all the golden elements, all for the low low price of $3! That price is so low... it's scary! Monday, October 29 (James' Birthday!), at 7PM. Be there and be SPooOOooooOoky!

August 16, 2007:
Last week was officially (though, in many ways, unofficially) Improv U week in the CBRM. We did 4 shows, all of which were incredibly awesome. Each more awesome than the last. Maybe. Anywho - thanks to everyone who came out to the Boardwalk/Playhouse/Capri! Your assistance as audience really helped bring up the fun!

If your interested, there's some new pics in the pics section concerning last week's events, along with new profile pics. Go take a gander!

July 30, 2007:
There's 3 ways to get tickets for Improv U Steals Your Stuff & Screams At Your Mom. They are:
1. At any and all Improv U shows up to that point (and there's quite a few, so get on out there!) or
2. If you see any of the Improv U members on the street/at the store/talking a stroll through a park/etc. make them sell you one! It's their obligation to do so!
3. Email us at improvu@gmail.com and we'll work something out.

Of course, there's always "at the door," but then what will you spend your anticipation on?!
Only $5! Woo!

July 17, 2007:

It's coming! Get ready to get stolen from!

June 20, 2007:
Seems we were without a main-page for a while. But, that freaked out cat did a good job of keeping the place warm for us. Anywho - down to business!

We had to move from Thursday nights to Wednesday nights. So now you can get your fix of Improv U one day earlier! Sweet!
